- Digital communication systems, digital recording systems (CD), and some
  mass storage devices (RAID disks) rely on error correction coding to improve
  the quality of those systems.
- Since these systems process data at a very high rate, the error correction
  coding and decoding has to be done efficiently.
- Fortunately, error correction coding can be implemented using very simple and
  fast digital logic circuits.
- These circuits rely on some elementary operations with binary numbers.
