Analog-to-Digital Conversion

• Sampling converts an analog signal into a sequence of samples (numbers).
• For this sequence of numbers to be representable by a computer micro-processor, each number has to be converted into a string of binary information digits or bits.
• Computers and other digital equipment can represent and process only information in binary form.
• Digital communication systems transmit information in binary form.
• The process of converting a sequence of numbers into binary form is called analog-to-digital conversion or A/D conversion.
