- Digital signals arise when a discrete-time signal is quantized.
- A quantized signal assumes only discrete amplitude values.
- Quantized, discrete-time signals can be encoded into a sequence of
bits.
- A sequence of bits can be processed by digital hardware, such as a
computer.
- There are numerous, powerful processing techniques for digital signals
that have no counterpart for analog signals.
- Additionally, digital hardware is much easier to produce than analog equipment.
