Previous: Memory Operations
- Typically, an ALU has relatively few available operations.
- Operations include:
- addition
- subtraction
- bitwise logical operations
- shifting left or right (multiply/divide by power of 2)
- More complex operations can be constructed from these elementary
operations.
- The number of bits in the operands is an important figure of merit for a CPU.
